Meeting in Aqaba, Jordan, on December 17-20 Iraqi transport unions as well as oil and gas workers unions took place as part of the ITF-ICEM well to wheel alliance. Workers from different federations discussed the situations in Iraq, and the best ways to build alliance to help unions protect their rights. Both wings of the port workers union signed an agreement document in which they agree to have a unification congress to enable them to face challenges, in particular the decree 150/87 which was legislated by Saddams Regiem and used by the Iraqi authorities to ban unions in the Public sector. All participants from all unions who participated in the workshop agreed on a time frame action plan to implement the aims of the Well to Wheel alliance. Bilal Malkawi, the ITF Arab world secretary commented '' That was a great opportunity to support Iraqi transport workers, and to build their capacity to enable them face challenges in Iraq''
